Overview

The Department of Pathology and Anatomy at the Eastern Virginia Medical School seeks qualified applicants for a full time salaried faculty position as a medical educator at the ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL  PROFESSOR level. Eastern Virginia Medical School is Southeastern Virginia’s premier medical education institution. Based in Norfolk’s historic Ghent neighborhood on an impressive and growing campus with access to a state of the art simulation center, world class hospitals and newly renovated educational facilities, EVMS offers a broad range of programs and areas of concentration in education, research and patient care.  This community based medical and health profession’s school provides ample opportunities for growth for a professional interested in developing their career as a medical educator. The successful candidate will join a collegial department that teaches in Anatomy, Neuroscience, Histology, Embryology, and Pathology to our medical and graduate students. There are many opportunities for basic science collaborations, clinical and translational research as well as for educational research. The school also has an integrated ultrasound curriculum.

Responsibilities

Duties will include lab, classroom and small group instruction, service on school committees and active scholarship in medical education, community-oriented research, or basic science research.

Persons with expertise in several of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Human dissection skills
  • Human neuroscience
  • Histology
  • Embryology
  • Facilitation of small group and case base learning activities.
  • Supervision and facilitation of simulated medical cases.
  • Development of medical and graduate curricula.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D., M.D., D.P.T. or equivalent terminal degree, and experience teaching undergraduate medical sciences classes. The successful candidate will be a motivated enthusiastic educator with a desire to work in a dynamic academic environment.

 

Rank and salary: The successful applicant will hold a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and Anatomy. Rank and salary are dependent upon the applicant’s qualifications.
